Sometimes impacts and damage to the envrionment due to a particular project is unavoidable. The term "mitigation" refers to developing a conservation project that provides compensation for and offsets an unavoidable impact. Proposed projects get approved by a regulatory agency such as the New Jersey DEP, USEPA, or Army Corps of Engineers.
Conservation Resources works with both regulatory agencies as well as entities that are proposing the impacts, such as government agencies and corporations, to identify appropriate mitigation projects. The project we identify are being conducted by non-profit conservation organizations and local governments. Unlike for-profit entities conducting mitigation, projects identified by Conservation Resources are part of larger ongoing intitatves that will be owned and managed long-term by non-profits and local governments.
Currently, Conservation Resources is working on several wetlands mitigation and riparian mitigation projects.
